The Impact of FASD on Sensory Integration @ CAS Toronto

9:30-10:30- Lived Experience Panel

10:30-12:30- Common Sensory Integration Challenges in Individuals with FASD, including a discussion on recommendations, equipment, and adaptive devices for addressing these sensory differences.

Presenter: Madiha Sultan Occupational Therapist, Adult Program, Surrey Place Centre, Toronto.

12:30-1:30: Lunch

1:30-3:30- Sleep Challenges will focus on the function of sleep, what goes wrong when sleep is bad, and how sleep evaluation and treatment has drastically changed for patients with FASD, based upon recent research.

Presenter: Dr. Colin Shapiro Professor of Psychiatry and Ophthalmology at University of Toronto; Director, Youthdale Child and Adolescence Sleep Centre; Medical Director Sleep and Alertness Clinic, Bay Street, Toronto; Director International Sleep Clinic, Parry Sound.

3:30-4:30:  Nutrition & Diet children with FASD have unique nutrition needs, but making positive changes to eating can be challenging. This presentation will summarize current evidence on nutrition needs and focus on practical methods to improve your child’s eating.

Presenter: Alyson Martinez, Registered Dietician, Senior Director, Clinical Services, Pediatric Clinic St. Michaels Hospital, & member of Boomerang Health Pediatric Clinic, Toronto.

Alberta Government FASD Learning Series: Register now for the January 24 webcast

The FASD Learning Series helps individuals, caregivers, front-line workers and professionals learn more about FASD, and how to support persons with FASD. The educational sessions cover a broad range of topics. Though targeted to residents of Alberta, Canada, much of the content in this series applies to people outside Canada.

Register now for the January 24, 2018, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Webcast “Housing and FASD – A Panel Discussion”.

There are many issues related to finding housing for persons with FASD.  In this webinar, the panel will share their experiences in dealing with some of these issues, which include:
– Housing shortages and prohibitive costs
– The effect of concurrent health issues
– How misconceptions and misunderstandings about FASD can affect housing

This webcast will be of interest to persons directly affected by FASD, landlords, residential building managers and anyone else supporting persons with FASD.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Initiative is pleased to invite you to attend the upcoming webinar, Population-based prevalence of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in Canada.

This webinar presentation concludes one of the FASD Initiative’s funded projects, led by Dr. Svetlana Popova, a senior scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and an associate professor at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Popova will discuss the methodology and results of her study that led to the first population-based estimates of FASD prevalence among elementary school children in the Greater Toronto Area.

Dr. Popova will also be joined by Dr. Valerie Temple, diagnostic team member, during  the question and answer period.

Join us on March 27, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST to learn more.

L’Initiative sur le TSAF tiendra un webinaire afin de présenter les résultats d’une étude portant sur la prévalence du TSAF chez les enfants d’âge scolaire.

L’Initiative sur le trouble du spectre de l’alcoolisation fœtale (TSAF) de l’Agence de la santé publique du Canada (ASPC) vous invite à assister au webinaire Prévalence du trouble du spectre de l’alcoolisation fœtale dans la population du Canada.

Cette présentation conclura l’un des projets financés par l’Initiative sur le TSAF dirigé par Dre Svetlana Popova, scientifique chevronnée du Centre de toxicomanie et de santé mentale (CAMH) et professeure agrégée à l’Université de Toronto.

Dre Popova expliquera la méthodologie et les résultats de son étude qui a mené aux premières estimations de la prévalence du TSAF chez des enfants fréquentant l’école primaire de la région du Grand Toronto.
